The Introduction of Taoyuan Veterans Hospital

Taoyuan Veterans Hospital's Pic01To correspond with the National Medical Network Plan on balanced distribution of medical resources nationwide, the ROC Armed Forces Veterans Affairs Commission of the Executive Yuan has established a large teaching hospital at a foothill of Futoushan (Tiger Head Hill). Upon the Executive Yuan's approval launched the construction work of such a hospital, and the hospital was not formally opened until October 29, 1994. Taoyuan Veterans Hospital aims to serve veterans, their dependents and general citizens of the grand Taoyuan area via high quality medical service. The hospital also acts to proactively facilitate National Health Insurance work and push forward community medical service.

With a beautiful environment, convenient access to public transportation and traffic facilities, the hospital occupies an area of more than eight hectares, provides an available total area within the building compound of 53,670 square meters, and accommodates some 500 working and medical staff. In addition, the hospital can provide 238 acute beds, 8 chronic beds, 142 special beds, and 140 beds for a public nursing home. The main missions of the hospital are to provide medical service in all facets for veterans (and their dependents) and general people. In terms of specialist divisions, the hospital has as follows, General Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Chest Medicine, Gastroenterology, Neurology, Metabolism, Nephrology, Immune-Rheumatology, Family Medicine, Infectious Diseases, General Surgery, Breast Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, Urology, Plastic Surgery, Rectal Surgery, Cardiac Surgery, Orthopedics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Ophthalmology, ENT, Dermatology, Nutrition Counseling, Rehabilitation, Pain Management, Psychiatry, and Dental.

Taoyuan Veterans Hospital's Pic02At the present time, the hospital is responsible for general outpatient service and inpatient matters. Other than these services, the hospital also supports the policy made by the central government. For example, it received working staff from Yan Chai Hospital and patients of Kuantu Hospital after these two hospitals were temporarily closed, as well as visitors and aged veterans that came back from mainland China for assembled quarantine and medical treatment during counter-SARS period. Understanding the significant role a community hospital plays in counter-epidemics and control of infectious diseases, the hospital has been very much dedicated to the following efforts: including facilitation of community medical service, implementation of community health education as well as realization of disease prevention and screening. In addition, the hospital has actively pushed forward in the cooperation program for referral of mutual outpatients and inpatients among community hospitals. Doing so can better improve the relationship between hospitals and community residents via the increase of accessibility, availability, integration and coordination among community hospitals. In the end, a health guardian that provides excellent medical service and a safe medical environment for all community residents is what we want.
