What do we do?

he infection control team works to help prevent hospital acquired infection by:

1. Providing an advice service for staff to help them prevent and manage infection. We can advise on the management of individual patients, or on clusters or outbreaks of infection. We are also available for advice about decontamination of equipment and the environment, or about best practice in the prevention of infection associated with any area of health care.
2. Conducting a programme of audit and surveillance.
3. Setup guidelines for all staff on the prevention and management of infection.
4. Providing input to the education programmes provided by the trust for all staff.
5. Being involved in research to improve infection control practice.

Infection Control Policies

A competent and active infection control team and Committee are the most important part of the program for prevention and control of nosocomial infections among patients and personnel. The committee meets at least every three months. There is a planned agenda for each meeting and minutes are kept. The IC team reviews data concerning infections and infection risks and recommends policies to appropriate medical staff committees, hospital administration, and hospital personnel. Our committee develop, recommend, and set policies. Hospital department managers have line responsibility for implementation of these policies.
