The original name of the hospital used to be "Nanzih Veterans Hospital of the ROC Armed Forces Veterans Affairs Commission of the Executive Yuan.? In an attempt to enhance the medical service for veterans and their dependents of Taoyuan, Chungli, Yangmei areas, relieve the medical service workload of Taipei Veterans General Hospital, support the regional insufficiency of medical resources of the National Medical Network, and render more medical service for the general people of the society, the construction of "Taoyuan Veterans Hospital?was then launched at a foothill of Futoushan (Tiger Head Hill) in 1989 upon the Executive Yuan's approval, and entered into the existing National Medical Network Plan when the hospital was opened.
The construction work of the hospital compound began on June 30, 1991, and was completed in June of 1994. Upon the instruction of the Veterans Affairs Commission, all medical manpower and resources of the original Nanzih Veterans Hospital were moved into this new hospital compound, and the newly established hospital was then renamed as "Taoyuan Veterans Hospital of the ROC Armed Forces Veterans Affairs Commission of the Executive Yuan?on July 1, 1994. A grand opening for this new hospital was held on October 29, 1994 and hence commenced its various medical operation and service activities.
